Practice Tip

Practice in small, simple, bite sized pieces!

The brain can only remember and retain so much at one time, so that is why it is important to practice a little bit everyday instead of a whole lot in one day.

Take one part of a song, a phrase or line and practice it slowly repeating it at least 5 times.   Do this with each successive phrase or line.  As the week progresses you will see the difference in your playing!

Learning a musical instrument is like learning a new language.  It takes time, patience and persistence.  Also remember that interest may not always be 100%.  This is normal.  We encourage all parents and students to persevere and take a relaxed attitude toward the experience and expectations.  The desire to excel will return, just keep fostering the love of music.  It's well worth it!

Interesting Composer Fact

Franz Schubert composed works for many instruments including the piano, however he himself never owned a piano, and relied on the kindness of friends to let him use theirs.
